Sea Girt Municipal Court

Known to many as the ‘Town of Cedars,” this quaint town of approximately 2,000 residents is situated along the New Jersey shoreline bounded to its right by the Atlantic Ocean. SeaGirt is rich with tourist attractions including golden sandy beaches, a lighthouse, and parks and playgrounds. Although a quiet town, traffic violations and disorderly persons offenses increase as the number of tourists visiting Sea Girt increases during warmer months.

Local law enforcement are aggressive when it comes to preserving Sea Girt’s peaceful atmosphere and the safety of residents and tourists. Although the town is relatively low on the serious crime index, the court keeps busy with speeding tickets, drunk driving offenses, underage drinking, and property crimes such as petty thefts and shoplifting.

Whether you have been charged with a traffic violation, disorderly persons offense, or local municipal offense, our attorneys can help you understand the charges you are facing, the possible outcomes, and help guide you to the right legal decision in your particular case.  For a free initial consultation, contact our experienced defense attorneys today by calling 732-303-7857.

Municipal Court Facts

Cases heard in New Jersey’s municipal courts include the following types of violations:

  • Motor Vehicle and Traffic Laws;
  • Disorderly and Petty Disorderly Persons offenses (criminal cases which may result in fines or jail); and
  • Municipal Ordinances (local laws).

More serious offenses, known as indictable offenses, are sent to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. The County Prosecutor decides whether to present the case to the Grand Jury or to return the case to the municipal court as a less serious offense (i.e., a downgrade offense.) If you are indicted on an offense, your case will go to Superior Court.
