Robbery Charges in New Jersey

Robbery is a crime in New Jersey, which can carry very serious consequences upon conviction. Defined as theft by force or the threat of force, robbery can subject an individual to lengthy state prison terms if he or she is convicted.

In the state of New Jersey, a juvenile (an individual who is under the age of 18) can be charged with juvenile offenses such as robbery. However, in the juvenile system, the goal is to rehabilitate the juvenile. This is different than the adult criminal system, which oftentimes focuses on punishment and/or deterrence.

This does not mean that a juvenile who is charged with robbery or weapons offenses does not face very serious consequences upon adjudication. A robbery and/or weapons possession juvenile offense can cause a juvenile defendant to be sentenced to Jamesburg. Jamesburg is the youth detention facility in New Jersey. A juvenile may be sentenced to this facility upon a robbery conviction.
