Misdemeanors, or “disorderly persons” offenses, that occur in Middlesex County are heard in individual town municipal courts. These crimes include Simple Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Harassment, Criminal Mischief, Shoplifting, Theft, Underage Possession of Alcohol, Providing Alcohol to Minors, and Possession of Marijuana Less Than Fifty Grams to name just a few. While these charges are considered less serious than felonies, they nevertheless provide for penalties which include up to six months in the Middlesex County Jail, thousands of dollars in fines and loss of driving privileges in this state.
